PARTS USED: The whole herb
ACTIONS: Astringent, decongestant,
diuretic, digestive, emmenagogue, nervine. Vitalizes the blood and
breaks up stagnation. Increases reproductive (uterine/kidney) qi.
Promotes urination and Lactation.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES: Squaw
vine is most beneficial in childbirth. It strengthens the uterus,
helps prevent miscarriage, and relieves congestion of the uterus
and ovaries. Prepares the uterus for childbirth. Regulates hormonal
irregularities addressing excessive, scanty, irregular and painful
menses. Its antiseptic properties make it valuable for treating
vaginal infections. Is a natural nerve sedative.
COMBINATIONS: It is most
often used in combination with Raspberry and black cohosh two weeks
prior to birth. Also used with nettles, red clover, motherwort,
chamomile and others for a nervine sedative and to reduce congestion
in the uterus.
GROWTH PATTERN: Squawvine
is a perennial evergreen creeper that grows on forest floors. It
is native to the United States

COUNTERINDICATIONS: Do not
take during pregnancy until time of delivery.
DOSAGE: standard dosages.
If infused, is recommended for at least 20 minutes to obtain all
its medicinal properties.
